Mega Coin Squad (Xbox One) - Review

Mega Coin Squad is available now on the Xbox One and is priced at £9.99.

Mega Coin Squad or Ultimate Super Mega Coin Star as my son has christened it (he's a big fan), is a platformer all about collecting coins. Collect a certain amount of coins to finish a level and proceed to the next where you will do the same again. Simple, no?

Well, no actually. Whilst yes they way to progress through the levels is very simple and pretty easy if you do it right, Mega Coin Squad is actually pretty insane, especially for completionists like me (I hate not being able to collect every last bit of anything in a game). This is because at the end of each level you will be rewarded with a gem for each of the following tasks; collecting the coins required in on swoop rather than banking in your piggybank, doing so without losing a life and all whilst keeping under a pretty tight time limit. Yikes.

Now of course these gems are optional. Apparently. But people like me, and I know there are many of us out there, will not easily see these gems as something that can be left behind. I didn't even want to do it in more than one play through of the level, something which I quickly had to get over.

Mega Coin Squad is a LOT of fun. Yeah you can play it slowly and methodically, but you won't, because the fun is in the challenge, specifically on how fast you can complete it (I am not fast). It's graphics are cute, and a little insane and the music is a lot of fun too. Add all of this to a brilliant multiplayer mode and you have yourself a hit. It does feel a little pricey for what's on offer, but not so much that I have nay problem recommending it. Go ahead and try it and see where you can get to on the leaderboard. And if you have kids, they'll LOVE it.

7/10 TRY IT!
